The faculty of "Radio Engineering and Telecommunications" was founded in 1987. However, training on specialties “Radio Engineering” and Automatic Telecommunications” has been provided since 1September, 1978, on the basis of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. Department of Industrial Electronics initiated in August, 1978 by the Chair A.T. Akhmadiyev, and lecturers O.Z. Rutgaizer, Ye. V. Malishevsky and A. Berikuly, made the first steps in formation of the faculty staff and basic laboratory facilities.

In 1981 the core Department of Radio Engineering and Telecommunications came into being. The first specialists graduated in 1983. In the year 1986, the increasing student contingent resulted in creation of a new department – “Automatic Telecommunications”. In the following years, the faculty introduced a number of new specialties: “Industrial Electronics” (1988), transformed later (2000) into “Electronic Systems and Technologies”; “Radio Communication, Broadcasting and Television” – in 1989; Economics and Management in Telecommunications” – in 1992; “Multi-channel Telecommunication systems” – in 1995. Since 2004, the faculty has been executing training programs for bachelor’s and master’s degrees in “Radio Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications”, and since 2011 – in the specialties: “Instrumentation Engineering” and “Systems of Information Security”.

Now the Faculty of Radio Engineering and Telecommunications” amounts to over 798 students of the full-time department and 66 students of the part-time department, 31 postgraduates, 4 doctorate students. Over the period of its existence the faculty has trained over 3,500 full-time students.
